Rock Band Metal Track Pack Coming Soon

Rockband fans hunkering for a little metal have something to look forward to in October.
Press release to follow.

Harmonix, the leading developer of music-based games, and MTV Games, a part of Viacom’s MTV Networks, (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), along with distribution partner Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), today announced plans to release Rock Band® Metal Track Pack™, a thrashtastic standalone disc that will be available October 13, 2009 at retail stores nationwide for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and Wii™ system from Nintendo. The suggested retail price for Rock Band Metal Track Pack is $29.99.

Summoning power from the metal gods on high, the Rock Band team has assembled 20 on-disc tracks exploding with bone-crushing, ear-lashing, face-melting metal including anvil-heavy cuts from Godsmack, Children of Bodom, Evile, Judas Priest, Bullet For My Valentine and more! Six of the on disc tracks are brand new to the Rock Band platform and will be exclusive to the Rock Band Metal Track Pack disc for a limited time before joining the Rock Band® Music Store as downloadable content.
Rock Band Metal Track Pack, like all Rock Band software, is compatible with all Rock Band instrument controllers, as well as most Guitar Hero® and other third party music video game peripherals and microphones.

In addition, fans who buy the Rock Band Metal Track Pack for Xbox 360 or PLAYSTATION 3 system can play directly from the disc or download the songs onto their consoles’ hard drives through a free offer with Xbox LIVE® online entertainment network or the PlayStation®Network. Once downloaded, the songs will automatically appear in the player’s custom Rock Band library and can be integrated into setlists and played in all game modes. With more than 800 tracks available in the Rock Band music catalogue and regular releases of downloadable content every week, Rock Band Metal Track Pack is yet another way music-lovers can continue to expand and customize their music libraries.

Personally speaking, the Guitar Hero Metallica selection was a bit better, though that’s because I’m a big Metallica fan.
Hopefully this will quell the metal heads who’ve been devoted to Rock Band.

I doubt this will satisfy true metalheads to be honest. I look at it and am completely underwhelmed. It’s nice to see At the Gates and Children of Bodom get some love, but most of the rest are either A) reused tracks from previous Guitar Hero games or B) NOT metal (Queens of the Stone Age, really? Rock /= Metal). I’m sure that a lot of the songs I would like to see, at the least, are sort of untenable for Rock Band, given that the vocal track would be pretty worthless. Still, bands like Amon Amarth and Opeth are gaining more notoriety here in the U.S. and I would love to see either of them appear in a Rock Band game.

True, and though I haven’t looked at their DLC lately I suppose this is the best they could do? I’m not a huge metal guy (and even my Metallica fanhood is more tallic than it is Metal) but I don’t recall RATM really being Metal…
