WoW Patch 3.2.2: Onyxia’s Return!

The Broodmother is back, baby! Blizzard is bringing back the original raid instance, Onyxia’s lair, as part of their 5-year anniversary celebration. Check out the details at the World of Warcraft site: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/underdev/onyxia20.html

A couple key points:

1) New updated raid mechanics more suited to today’s players, including a normal 10-man and heroic 25-man encounter.
2) Updated gear with classic models from Onyxia’s original loot table
3) The Onyxia Broodling: a 310% speed flying mount sharing the same model as Onyxia herself.
4) A limited-time-only Onyxia Brood Whelpling pet for players who log in anytime after the 5-year anniversary event begins.

I can’t speak for everyone, but this is really cool news for me. Onyxia was the first raid instance I ever saw in an MMO, and it was such an incredible encounter. I remember wipe after wipe after wipe, and then, when we finally got her down, the incredible rush of victory. Onyxia was always a very cool part of the WoW lore to me, and I’m glad to see her getting a return to respectability.

And if you could be so lucky as to get your hands on the Brood of Onyxia mount, you’d have to change your underwear every time you summoned it.

As Ricky Gervais said, “We’d all like to write our own reviews, wouldn’t we?”  But I can’t deny that it would be absolutely sick to have a mount with the same model as Onyxia.
